Imagine it’s moving day.
You just stepped into your new apartment and are waiting for the movers to arrive with your furniture. Except this isn’t a typical moving day, and no movers are coming. You don’t have any furniture or possessions other than a small suitcase of clothes you packed in a rush to escape an abusive and dangerous environment.
Your caseworker has helped find you a new apartment so you are safe and sheltered, but now what?
That’s when Off The Floor comes in and fills your empty rooms with a bed, nightstand, sofa, coffee table, dining table and chairs, lamps, and even a recliner where you can rest comfortably after work. You now have a fully furnished space you can call home.
Off the Floor is a faith-based organization that, since 2004, has provided gently used furniture items to disadvantaged families who lack them. Items may include beds, dressers, tables, chairs, couches, recliners, TV stands, end tables, linens, lamps, rugs, and more.
At Off the Floor, they transformed the lives of 738 families last year, and they’re on a mission to increase that number of households in 2023! Every day, they help four families by furnishing their home, which creates a more comfortable living environment and strengthens the family unit. Since their mission in 2004, they have furnished over 5,500 homes!
If you are a Pittsburgher in need of furniture, visit their website.
You can also support them by donating your gently used furniture; you can help furnish the home of a neighbor in need and create a community where we all belong.
Request a FREE donation pickup if you’re within 10 miles of downtown or drop off at our warehouse Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-3:00 pm at 901 Allegheny Ave. on the North Side.
