The Black Youth Coalition and Penn Hills Library to present Radical Reads

The Black Youth Coalition and Penn Hills Libray partnered to present Radical Reads. It’s a teens to adults book club that meets throughout the summer. Books, snacks, and camaraderie will be provided. The first book was Black Power: The Politics of Liberation in America by Stokely Carmichael and Charles V. Hamilton.

In addition to Radical Reads Penn Hills Library has a 2023 Summer Reading Challenge. The Summer Reading Challenge will take place from June 17th until August 26th. The Summer Reading Kick-Off Party will take place June 17th from 12 pm-3 pm. You can sign up for challenges, get a swag bag with exciting bookish items, enjoy free food provided by the Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh, and participate in various activities. Prizes included Visa gift cards, yoga mats, reading socks, and so much more. Click here to sign up.

While you are enjoying the book club, stop by the Community Fridge. The Penn Hills Libray Community Fridge is an ongoing library resource available to the community.

They keep the fridge and freezer stocked with fresh vegetables, meal kits, dairy products, and more. The pantry shelves also include sanitary napkins, tampons, and diapers.

They receive small restocks from local businesses such as Aldi and Dollar General on Mondays and Thursdays and large donations from the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank on Wednesdays and Fridays. Check out their site for operating hours.
